Explore the Auckland Region
Based around two large harbours Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, has plenty to offer on land and at sea. The central city is a 30-minute drive from Auckland Airport and guarantees to fulfil urban expectations with award-winning restaurants, theatre, nightlife and of course the iconic Sky Tower.
Auckland boasts many large and popular parks. Auckland Domain in the city centre is Auckland’s oldest park and is home to the grand building of the Auckland Museum.
Take a drive over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and discover the seaside village of Devonport and explore the World WII caves of North Head. The North Shore is lined with stunning and very swimmable beaches up its eastern coast most of which boast magnificent views of Rangitoto Island.
If it is beaches you are after they are in abundance in the Auckland Region. Just outside the city centre take a cruise along Tamaki Drive, one of the world’s most beautiful harbour roads, and grab an ice-cream.
From East Auckland, you can catch a car-ferry over the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island and use your vehicle to explore this fabulous retreat full of beautiful beaches, olive groves, vineyards and wineries. Further to the east is the stunning Pohutukawa Coast, an easy drive through rolling hills and countryside to quaint seaside shops and lovely beaches popular with kayakers and paddle boarders as well as some of the region’s best mountain biking.
Out on the West Coast you will find the rugged black sand beaches of Piha and Muriwai, as well as the lush rain forests of the Waitakere ranges, criss-crossed with bush and walks to explore. To the south, is Manukau Harbour and the Awhitu Peninsula where at its end, a short walk will take you to breath-taking views from the Manukau Harbour Lighthouse.
