Is one of Dunedin's main driving trips within the city.
A round trip of the Peninsula is approximately 70km. We suggest to travel the harbourside road out to the Taiaroa Head and return to the City via the high road. This road called 'Highcliff Road' offers magnificent views of the City and surroundings.

Built 1871 – 1874 It took 200 workmen brought in for the job, 3 years to construct using local rock and wood, then a further 12 years to finish, with most of the fittings being imported from around the world. This may well be the only true castle in this condition in the southern hemisphere.

The only mainland colony of these magnificent birds that you can see anywhere in the world

Dunedin Railway Station ------

This is one of the most photographed rail stations in the world and is a well preserved example of Victorian rail architecture

Moeraki Boulders & Fishing Village -------- Just 80km north

There are only 3 places in the world where you can see boulders of this sort. They are calcium boulders formed in the ground in much the same way as pearls are formed in an oyster.
