Queenstown is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Zealand and once you have visited you will understand why.
The scenery surrounding this town, set on the shores of lake Wakatipu, nestled between majestic mountains, is quite simply stunning. Queenstown is always a hive of activity and buzzing with energy as there is plenty to do both in town and in the surrounding area all year round. Downtown is full of shops, galleries, bars, bistros and restaurants with fabulous lake views to be had as you stroll around.
There are literally hundreds of activities to enjoy, many aimed to get the heart pumping, so it is a popular place for thrill-seekers to have a go at bungy jumping, jet boating, white water rafting, canyoning, alpine skiing, mountain biking, and parapenting to name but a few.
A scenic drive around the lake in your Queenstown hire car will get you to the town of Glenorchy, in a background of native beech forest and towering mountain ranges this is home to filming locations for the Lord of the Rings and Narnia movies.
Head north east out of town to explore Arrowtown, a gold mining town born out of the gold rush of the 1860’s it has retained its old world feeling.
It is also worth exploring a little further afield of Queenstown over the Crown Range to Wanaka, and make sure to stop of at the famous Cardrona Hotel for a photo, a drink and a nosy around this iconic NZ destination.
